Resolution on Iran

Hey everybody, I think we should do a very strong resolution on the case of 15 British soldiers captured. What do you think?

My proposal (awaiting comments):

"De
mocrat Youth Community of Europe (DEMYC) strongly condemns actions taken by the Iranian regime in order to capture and imprison 15 british soldiers. We urge Iranian officials to immediately release the above mentioned British troops and enable them to return back to their homeland safely. If this is not the case, we recognize the right of the United Kingdom and the international community to put Iran under diplomatic pressure with the aim of immediate release of British soldiers. We strongly encourage the European Union and the United Nations to take any necessary supportive measures to achieve this goal."

I like it.. but don't we need to assemble the Executive Committee in order to adopt it?

I take this as a proposal(as I wrote) to the Bureau which acts in between Excomm meetings...

We should just name it statement for time being and send it out as a statement of the DEMYC bureau!

In that resolution, shouldn`t we also explain why our opinion about the situation is like this with a sentence "...as a democratic youth organisation that has a strong belief in civilian freedom" or "we think that Iran has breached International law". I mean that we, as the members, all know what we are and for what we stand, but only the name of the organisation doesn`t explain why are we against Iran`s actions? Without the explanation it seems that we are desperately trying to prove that we`re democratic youth.

It` just a thought and I`m in favour of this resolution`s idea.

good idea, I support it as well. Regarding to Maiko's proposition- I think it's not necessary, but writing sth. about our belief in civilian freedom wouldn't be bad. I only don't understand why "Without the explanation it seems that we are desperately trying to prove that we`re democratic youth"- writing nothing, but "DEMYC" shows what we're standing for...

I think it's an excellent, concise statement. I support it.
